Day two, as promised!
Today, I wanted to talk a little bit about prayer and how it can impact your family.
Communication with the Creator is one of the most wonderful gifts that we can receive in this lifetime. Prayer is a way to unite with our Father in Heaven, but it can also be a warming experience for individuals on earth.
Prayer should be open communication; talk with your Father. He loves you and wants to hear from you.
In the same way, open communication with & for your spouse should occur on a regular basis. When you pray for or with your spouse, remember to be grateful for his/her wonderful qualities. Thank God for blessing your family, and speak kindly of your spouse in your prayers. Prayer is not a time to attack your spouse indirectly ("Bless my husband to stop annoying me all the time", "Help my wife stop nagging me constantly", etc. You get the picture). Prayer is also not only for yourself; involve your spouse in your prayers.
Your prayers are a great time for bonding. When you pray, the Holy Spirit is better able to dwell with you, and any harsh feelings will dissipate as you & your spouse connect with the Father. And if you pray out loud together (I highly recommend it), be sure to spend time really thanking Him for your spouse. When he/she hears you truly pouring out your feelings, it will be a tender moment.
In summary, prayer is good for marriages. Spend time really digging deep into your feelings and expressing those (both with your spouse and solo) to Heavenly Father. If you do this, you'll feel the power of prayer in your marriage.
Next time's topic: repentance.
