Today is all about repentance.
Most people think that repentance is simple guilt; but it is much more than that. It is the act of forsaking a wrongdoing in order to become more like God would have us be. It is turning away from what you were doing and pursuing better path.
This process is not easy in most cases, and generally requires us to walk through sorrow a bit. But when we come out of it and know that we are forgiven and know that we are back on the right path is so worth it. All the shame you may be feeling can be healed in an instant when you know you are back to what is right.
It seems like repentance is a one-person process, but in all reality it is truly a couple (or even family) process in addition to the personal process that happens. Trust is a hard thing to gain, and when wrongdoings occur, it's easy to lose it. Only with repentance (and forgiveness) can trust be regained. Of course, when repeated offenses occur, it's easy for others to grow callous skin and to turn away from you altogether. In some cases this may be warranted, but repentance is necessary to bring the relationship back.
I encourage you to seek repentance when you do something wrong, no matter how small or large. There's no harm that can come from truly humbling yourself and working through issues honestly.
Next is forgiveness.
Stay tuned, folks!
